Suggested Reading: Colossians 3:1-10
Dear NBRC Family & Friends,
I guess I knew that eventually it would probably have to be done by either me or someone else. I’ve recently been doing something I should have been doing a long time ago. I’ve been going through boxes and files of old papers and records and actually throwing some of them away! I found stored away old receipts of transactions made years ago. I found documents that I haven’t needed for years. I found papers that went back to the orientation in which I participated when I was preparing to attend what was then known as Ferris State College. Even though I never actually attended Ferris, I found the name of the dorm in which I would have lived and the number of what would have been my dorm room. I came across a box of notes and tests from when I was in high school. (I graduated from high school in 1979!)
Even though I’ve avoided and postponed this purging project, it’s really a good feeling to get rid of some things that had to go. They were taking up space and parting with them is somehow freeing. I’m glad I’ve gotten rid of as much as I have, but I still have more to do!
I need to begin doing something I should have been doing a long time ago. I need to go through “the box of my life,” take an honest look at my life, and determine if there are some things that need to go. Do I need to get rid of some anger or resentment? Do I need part with a bad habit? Do I have to let go of some jealously? Do I have unresolved guilt? Is there worry or anxiety that needs to get handed over to God? Is there anything keeping me from being who God wants me to be?
Just as getting rid of old papers, records, and documents can be freeing, so can getting rid of things in your life that might be keeping you from being who God wants you to be. There’s some cleaning to be done in my life. Is there some cleaning to be done in your life, too?
Pastor Ron
Prayer suggestion: As you pray, ask God to help you honestly assess your life and to help you rid yourself of anything keeping you from being who God wants you to be.
