North Blendon Reformed Church’s

Statement of Faith Summary

We believe there has always been, and there will always be, one God Who exists in three eternal Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. While each Person is fully and eternally God, there is only one God.

We believe God originally created mankind to live forever in perfect relationship with Him and with all of creation. Because of sin (disobeying God), mankind’s once perfect relationship with God was broken. Consequently, mankind became destined for eternal death and separation from God.

We believe that in and through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, God lovingly acted on behalf of mankind so that a restored relationship with Him is possible. Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin, and He overcame death through His resurrection so that eternal life is available to all people. It is only through Jesus Christ that one’s broken relationship with God can be repaired. God’s favor cannot be earned and is not deserved.

We believe that, even though God’s gift of salvation is available to all people, not all people are automatically saved. It is the Holy Spirit Who convicts a person of sin and moves a person to conversion, repentance, and faith. Salvation is wholly the work of sovereign God.

We believe that only through sincerely confessing and turning from sin, and by faith trusting in Jesus Christ as one’s personal Savior and living for Him as one’s Lord, can a person’s relationship with God be restored and God’s gift of salvation received. A person is saved by God’s grace alone and through a person’s faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. It is only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that spending eternity in hell can be avoided and spending eternity in heaven can be gained.

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the only rule and final authority for life and faith. The original writings of the Bible are true without error, and so is everything God intends to teach in the Bible.

We affirm two sacraments: baptism and the Lord’s Supper (“communion”), both of which were initiated by Jesus and both of which are taught in the Bible. While not a means of salvation, these sacraments are signs of God’s grace and they assure and remind us of God’s precious promises to us.

We believe that the true Church is not a building; rather, it is “the bride of Christ”; and is comprised of all those who, from all time and places, belong to God through faith in Jesus Christ.

We believe Jesus is coming again. When He does, there will be a bodily/physical resurrection of everyone who has ever died and everyone who has ever lived will be judged. The saved (believers), whose souls will be united with perfect bodies, will be taken to heaven. The souls of the lost (unbelievers) will spend eternity in hell and separated from God.

We believe God designed marriage to be between a man and a woman. Because same-sex marriages are not part of God’s design, they are considered sinful.

We believe that God designed sex to be enjoyed by a man and a woman who have entered into the covenant of marriage. Apart from marriage, a person is to live a celibate lifestyle.

We believe that living a homosexual lifestyle is contrary to God’s will and is, therefore, sinful.
